The University of North Texas and Texas Women’s University school years have just begun and we’re incredibly excited to have a new, amazing group of residents. To kick off a great year at The Retreat at Denton, we planned a calendar jam-packed with a variety of residence life events to give our residents and their friends the opportunity to meet and mingle with their neighbors and to enjoy spending time in our luxury amenities.
Week 1 – Taco Tuesday
For our first resident event, we held Taco Tuesday in our clubhouse. During this event we provided free Fuzzy tacos for our residents and all our staff members were present. This allowed for the residents to be able to put a face to a name and meet all the staff members that would be there for them during this lease term. It was such a great event and we had 35 people attend!
Week 2 – Floatchella
Week two, we held Floatchella in our resort style pool. This event is our annual pool party that every round of residents talks about for months! This year we went all out and filled the pool with a variety of floats, had a DJ come out and even provided free food and drinks for our residents! A special part of this event was that each resident was able to bring a guest, to get a taste of living their best with The Retreat. We had over 50 guest and residents attend Floatchella and we can’t wait to do this event again for Fall 2022.
Week 3 – Wellness Wednesday: Yin Meets Yang
During our third week of resident events, we held Wellness Wednesday: Yin Meets Yang in our gym aerobics room. For this event we had an instructor from Club Pilates come out and host a yoga class for any resident that wanted to attend. We know that the first week of classes can be stressful and by giving our residents a moment to slow down and focus on themselves, it can give them the power to continue moving forward. For our 20 residents that attended, they left the space feeling charged up for the week!
Week 4 – COVID University
For our fourth resident event, we held COVID University in main clubhouse lounge area. During this event, we had a speaker come to the clubhouse and provide our residents with tips and tricks on how to be successful for this upcoming school year. We know that our residents are in a transitional period of their life and if providing them with these resources will help them navigate life at UNT and TWU, it is the least we can do! During the event we also provided them with a small “COVID-19 pack” that came with a mask, gloves, hand sanitizer and a take home “degree” for graduating COVID University. For the class of 2021 we had 35 graduates, conGRADulations!
Week 5 – Pennies For Pancakes
Week five, we held Pennies for Pancakes in our main clubhouse lounge area. Pennies for Pancakes allowed our residents to be able to give back to a local non-profit organization, Denton Friends of the Family. Denton Friends of the Family is the sole provider in Denton County of shelter and free outreach services to those who have been affected by relationship violence and/or sexual assault. We had 20 residents that came to the clubhouse to enjoy some great pancakes and to give back to our community!
Week 6 – Free Popcorn Friday
Our very last week of our 6 in 6 events, we held Free Popcorn Friday in our main clubhouse lounge area. This event allowed for our staff to be able to give out a free bag of popcorn to over 15 residents to brighten their day and ask how their experience has been going.
Our team has had such an amazing time getting to meet our residents over the past 6 weeks. Here at The Retreat at Denton, we strive to create the best experience in UNT and TWU off campus housing and hosting a variety of awesome resident events is just one part of achieving that. Keep an eye out for more events to come, we’re looking forward to a great year!
